Watch the news and there’s no missing the widespread flooding happening all across Texas. Reports say the flooding and flood warnings extend nearly 800 miles from southern Texas and into Missouri. Thousands have been affected and millions of dollars in damage have occurred. Worse yet, reports say at least 27 people have died and 13 are still missing. Needleless to say, it’s a tough situation.

Well Ram Trucks and FCA’s philanthropic arm, the FCA Foundation, have announced plans to donate $100,000 to helping flooded communities. “Ram Truck and the FCA Foundation are committed to helping our friends in these Texas communities get back on their feet and on the road to recovering from the devastating floods,” said Bob Hegbloom, Ram Trucks’ President and CEO.

Ram Trucks is also working with the relief The First Response Team of America, a relief group known for its community restoration projects. The partnership extends back to 2012, and since, the automaker has donated more than $300,000 to First Response during similar crises. Ram has also equipped The First Response Team with a fleet of Ram pickup trucks and vans to aid in the process.

Relief efforts will concentrate on home renovations, delivering food and water, and supplying cleaning materials.

Besides First Response Team of America, Ram is also coordinating relief efforts with its “Ram Nation” truck owners association. Ram Nation members are just regular truck guys, but who often come together volunteering time, money, and their trucks to help clean and rebuild after natural disasters.

Why It Matters

Two things are well known: Texans love trucks and truck guys take care of their own. That’s why it’s not surprising to see Ram chip in to help the cause. And on a personal note, having been on the receiving end of philanthropic organizations like this after a natural disaster, I can attest to their effectiveness. Folks coming together helping one another is a great sight to see.
