Embarking on an overland journey through treacherous terrain usually requires some specialized equipment. Most folks choose Jeep Wranglers with lift kits and 35-inch tires, or Land Rovers with supplies hanging off its roof rack, but for Mark Christy and his girlfriend Nives Riddles, a bone-stock 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD was the vehicle of choice.

Now the pair did choose a 4WD version, but it wasn’t even equipped with the Z71 package or a set of meaty off-road tires – just the factory Firestone Transforce HT (highway tread) rubber and the Eaton G80 automatic locking rear differential. No winches, off-road lights, brush guards, or other specialty equipment.

How are they doing that, you ask? They sold everything they had that wasn’t welcomed on their uncharted journey. Christy left his job in the commercial movie and TV production industry while Riddles left her job doing high fashion makeup. With normal responsibilities behind them, the couple set out on their adventure.

“I start each morning by looking at Google Maps, searching for two-track routes in the general area we want to go to, pick one, and start driving,” Christy says. And the adventure will keep going just as long as they want it to. “There’s nothing we have to go back to,” he continued. “We’re just going to keep going until we don’t want to anymore.”
