Ram has introduced its latest “custom” truck appearance package, and this time, it’s the Ram Heavy Duty trucks getting some love. The new special edition is called the Night Package, and its available for 2500 and 3500 HD Rams with the single rear wheels. The new look includes blacked out exterior trim pieces, black wheels, the massive R-A-M logo on the tailgate, and a murdered out interior with smoked chrome accents.

The Night Package builds of the Sport Appearance Package – an available add-on to the Lone Star, Big Horn, and Laramie trims, which appeals to those wanting a well-equipped, good-looking truck with some unique character. Ram Trucks boss, Mike Manley, put it this way:

“Truck enthusiasts look for ways to stand out from the crowd. The Ram brand understands that it’s important to meet the demands and deliver outstanding, durable products to every type of truck buyer. From the Ram Sport, to the popular Rebel, to the ultimate off-road truck – the Ram Power Wagon – Ram is building the best trucks in the enthusiast segment.”

Of course, those getting a Night Package Ram Heavy Duty will get all the goodies that make the Ram HD one of the most competitive trucks in the segment. This includes three engine options, the segment’s only available manual transmission, available 4WD, a multi-link coil spring suspension on 2500HD models, and the segment’s only solid front axle.

But never mind the standard stuff – let’s dive into what makes the Night Package different.

What makes the Ram 2500 and 3500 Heavy Duty Night Package special

The Night Package is a visual feast of matte and gloss black bits scattered over the exterior of the Ram Heavy Duty. Up front, the traditional crosshair grille is coated in the gloss black finish and black billet inserts give it some contrast. Flat black badging on the front fenders and doors denote 2500 or 3500 and the engine choice. Smoked headlight lenses further the look, while the 20-inch wheels normally found on the Ram enjoy a nice black coating. The LT285/60R20E tires are rated for on- and off-road use and come with their outlined white letters facing outward.

Around back, the tailgate features the massive R-A-M logo, which is also in black. Those trucks with 4WD get a matching black 4x4 logo. Last but not least in the category of black add-ons are the side steps.

Aside from the black trim, the Night Package continues the Sport Appearance Package’s monochromatic theme, bringing body-colored paint to the front and rear bumpers, while adding body-colored fender flairs. The door handles are also upgraded to match the body color.

Speaking of that, the Night Package is available in five color choices. They include Bright Silver Metallic, Bright White, Brilliant Black Crystal, Delmonico Red Pearl, and Granite Crystal Metallic.

Inside, the Night Package includes black, high-back heated cloth and vinyl front buckets with a matching bench seat in back. They have white contrast stitching that helps brighten the otherwise dark cabin. A matte gray bezel around the infotainment system and center console, along with satin chrome anodized aluminum accents on the dash, door panels, and center console further add some pizzazz.

The stand-alone pricing for the 2017 Night Package has not been announced, but the least-expensive Ram 2500HD with the added package costs $45,520 plus a $1,320 destination fee. Options on the Ram HD add up quickly, especially when going for the $9,200 Cummins turbodiesel powerplant. Ram is already producing Heavy Duties equipped with the Night Package, so expect them to arrive in dealerships by the end of February.

More on the Ram Heavy Duty

As mentioned earlier, the Night Package is available on the Ram 2500 and 3500 Crew Cab pickup with any powertrain and driveline option. This includes the standard 5.7-liter Hemi V-8, the 6.4-liter Hemi V-8, and the mighty 6.7-liter Cummins inline-six turbodiesel. The Cummins’ tune and power output are tailored to match the three available transmission options, which include the base 66RFE six-speed automatic, the upgraded 68RFE six-speed auto, and the G56 six-speed manual transmission.

Ram 2500HD models come equipped with a multi-link coil spring suspension that provides a smooth ride yet impressive payload and towing capabilities. For those needed an increase in payload and towing, the single-wheel Ram 3500HD offers both by using a traditional leaf spring suspension with its solid axle. Aside from differing spring rates, the front suspension systems remain the same between the 2500- and 3500-series trucks.
