Mercedes might have needed five years to come out a production version of the Project One, but the result is absolutely gorgeous. What started back in 2017 as the Project One evolved over the years and finally came to life as the Mercedes-AMG One: a road-going supercar powered by a hybridized F1 engine that delivers in excess of 1,000 horses. But, according to Mercedes, the One is not only powered by a F1 engine, but it also feels like an F1 car. The question is: how will it do in a competition against the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series – a V-8 powered supercar with “only” 720 horsepower under the hood.

720 or 1,049 HP – Who Will Win The Race?

The latest video posted by Mercedes-AMG on its Youtube channel puts the AMG one and the AMG GT Black Series face to face. Both are driven by professional racing drivers: the One by AMG Performance driver Nico Bastian and the Black Series by five-time DTM champion Bernd Schneider. The challenge was to see who will race the 1,000 meters (1 kilometer) faster. But before we will tell you who won the race, let’s find out a bit more about the two contenders.

The AMG One is powered by a 1.6-liter V-6 F1-inspired engine that delivers a total of 566 horsepower. Next to it, there are two electric motors placed on the front axle that add another 322 horsepower, plus a third one attached to the gasoline engine that sends 161 horsepower to the engine’s crankshaft and a fourth one mixed in with a high-tech turbocharger that can produce a total of 121 horsepower. The system delivers a combined 1,049 horsepower! With a total weight of 3,730 pounds (1,695 kg) the One goes from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 2.9 seconds, from 0 to 124 mph in 7.0 seconds, and can hit a top speed of 219 mph.

In the other corner, we have the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series. It is powered by a twin-turbo, 4.0-liter V-8 engine that delivers a total of 720 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque. The Black Series is lighter than the One, with a claimed weight of 3,560 pounds (1,615 kg), but it is slower. It goes from 0 to 62 mph in 3.1 seconds, from 0 to 124 mph in 9 seconds and can hit a top speed of 202 mph.

On paper, it looks like either of the cars could win the race, but in reality, the Black Series didn’t stand a chance. The F1-inspired technologies helped the One to have a huge advantage in front of the GT Black Series, and, even if he doesn’t like to lose, Bernd Schneider had to admit there was no way he could win this race. The One even hit speeds of 315 km/h (195 mph)!

There is only one possible conclusion to this video: no doubt the GT Black Series is an outstanding car, but the One takes it to the next level!
