The all new Chevrolet Corvette C8 ZO6 is powered by a naturally aspirated 5.5L V8 LT6 delivering 670 horsepower and 470 pound feet of torque. The dual overhead cam design features 32 valves and a flat-plane crankshaft letting this fire breathing dragon rev to a staggering 8,600-rpm redline. This revolutionary engine for GM features an all aluminum block with forged aluminum pistons, forged titanium connecting rods, an active split intake manifold with twin 87 mm throttle bodies, and a racing-inspired dry-sump oiling system. Putting that power down to the track is done via a dual clutch eight-speed automatic transmission with a 5.56 final drive ratio. This combination of motor and transmission rocket the C8 Z06 from 0-60 in an earth-shattering 2.6 seconds. Performance tuned magnetic ride control keeps this beast planted in the corners while massive 345/25/R21 rear tires puts that power down on the pavement. While launch control and an electronically controlled limited slip differential makes this corvette one of the most formidable to ever make its way around a track.

A Force To Be Reckoned With On The Track

In the video by Speed Phenom, he says as soon as he finishes his lap, "this thing is freaking fast". The host goes on to comment how excellent the handling was, noting that the down force allowed him to hit full speed going through the corners. He notes how difficult it is to find a car you can take to the track and be able to push faster and faster each time you go out there, and he was even able to reach 153 mph. He then goes on to say that he was one of the fastest cars out on the track, but there is definite room for him to get the car even faster with a little more track time. All in all, it seems he had a great time on the track with the brakes performing well alongside the super sticky Michelin Pilot Sport 3s all wearing evenly despite being pushed hard. It seems like Speed Phenom just reinforces what so many gear heads already know, for the price it's really hard to imagine a more complete sports car that has better bang for the buck than the Corvette C8, and the Z06 edition simply takes a great platform and elevates it to a level once reserved for $300,000+ exotic cars.
