Mercedes-Benz released the Mercedes AMG-GT to the world in 2014, and it was met with praise from the supercar community. Luxurious and extremely powerful, the Mercedes AMG-GT is not your everyday supercar. These cars are special. Mercedes even has a motto they call "One Man, One Engine" in which each V-8 engine that will go into an AMG-GT is hand-assembled by one person. This means that each engine is a truly unique work of art that has each assembler's craft etched into its design. And that's just one thing that makes these cars so unique. Here's everything else you need to know about the Mercedes AMG-GT.

10 The AMG GT Is The Second Sports Car Developed Entirely In-house

That's right, Mercedes didn't need any help designing or building the AMG-GT. It knew exactly what it wanted to put into this car and how to make the monster that it is. Everything from the sleek characteristic design, the power behind the engine technology, and the perfect weight distribution make these cars street-ready and primed for the track. But what was the first car they developed in-house, you ask? It was the legendary AMG-SLS that was only available for five years (2010-2015)

9 The AMG GT Is 90-Percent Aluminum

When Mercedes was designing the AMG-GT, they wanted to make it as light as possible. Mercedes decided that they would use a combination of magnesium and aluminum to create most of the parts of the car. This brings the total weight of the AMG-GT to 3461 pounds with a gas tank that is roughly 90-percent full. That's pretty light for a supercar. This means that it can be guaranteed that the Mercedes AMG-GT will feel as light as a feather while it propels you around the track at speeds upwards of 160+ MPH. The AMG-GT Black Series can even hit a max speed of 202 MPH. You have to love those lightweight metals.

8 The AMG GT's "hot-vee" V-8 Engine Is A Monster

The engines in these cars really mean business. The AMG 4.0-liter dry-sump V-8 engine packs quite the punch. The twin turbos are set in between the cylinder banks of the engine. These cylinder banks are known as the "hot-vee" since the space between forms a "V" shape. The twin turbos feed a massive boost to each direct injected cylinder on the engine. The result of this combination is a quick 0 to 60 in 3.7 seconds for the 523-horsepower AMG-GT coupe. While the AMC-GT C has 550 horsepower which takes it from 0 to 60 in 3.6 seconds.

Let's talk more about that "hot-vee" engine. The AMG-GT's engine features a dry-sump system. But what does a dry-sump engine do? Well, in a wet-sump engine, the oil in the car is kept within the crankcase and then slowly drips to the oil pan at the bottom even when the car is at rest. In a dry-sump engine, the oil is pumped in and out when it is needed through an external oil reservoir. These engines still have oil pans, but the engines are sucked dry while the oil is taken from the rest of the engine. These types of engines provide more power, but they don't last as long as your conventional wet-sump engine.

6 The AMG GT Does Not Come With A Manual Transmission Option

Which is a shame. There's nothing like driving a really fast car and being able to control the gears with your hand the old-fashioned way. But as time moves on car manufacturers are slowly moving away from manual transmissions. It is sad to say that the AMG-GT does not come with a manual transmission option, but it never has. Mercedes prefers to put seven-speed dual-clutch transmissions in its supercars, which allow for quicker shifts and faster acceleration that most manual transmissions can't keep up with. There are also many safety features that can't be had on modern cars with manual transmissions.

5 The Mercedes AMG GT Engines Are Handcrafted

As mentioned above, Mercedes has a "One Man, One Engine" policy when it comes to the crafting of engines for its AMG-GT cars. Each engine is given to only one engineer, and this one engineer hand-assembles the engine, piece by piece. After they finish constructing the engine, they sign a small tag that is put near the engine to assure its authenticity. This extra step that Mercedes takes makes each AMG-GT a truly unique car that had blood, sweat, and tears poured into it to give the engine life. Each engine in an AMG-GT is truly a masterpiece of art and craftsmanship.

The newest models of the AMG-GT have an optional aerodynamics package that makes them cut through the wind like a hot knife through butter. The aerodynamics package costs an extra $2850. It comes with a high-gloss black, fixed rear aerofoil. Integrated into the rear apron is a further optimized diffuser. The front apron has been optimized with a larger front splitter and added air deflector elements on the sides of the rear wings. Mercedes-Benz announced in July 2021 that it will be making an all-electric version of the AMG-GT. This car is expected to be available in the second half of 2025 and onward. Mercedes is currently working on the AMG EA platform, which will be the basis for the all-electric AMG-GTs moving forward. Since electric cars have instant torque and extremely fast acceleration capabilities, it will be exciting to find out just how fast these electric AMG-GTs will be. We can only hope that these will be some of the fastest cars that Mercedes will create, and we look forward to finding out how they will fare on the track, and in the street.
